Article in 220Triathlon
A few months ago, on a Triathlon Podcast I have been listening to for about 12 years, had a Facebook conversation regarding transgender athletes, more specifically, a hypothetical "former male athlete competing and winning in the women's category. How would you feel?" While the post took it typical narrative, some for, some against, some trying to solve the fairness question of biological categories, no gender categories etc. These articles and discussions usually only ever focus on the professional sports or elite performances, and it always the same story, just change the sport. "Transgender woman wins against female athletes. Unfair playing field?" The journalist is typical really bad at the story telling also. I have not once seen an article that explains the social, psychological, physical, hormonal and political hurdles any athlete has to jump through just to compete.
A week or so after this discussion was held, I was contacted by an journalist from a UK website (Tim Heming) wanting to have a chat more on the personal side which is never reported on. We were restricted to 500 words but it could easily been a detailed article going into a lot more. Please read the screen shots below, both of Tim's reasoning behind writing the article and the article itself. I am extremely grateful and humble for Tim reaching out to me.
